There’s a real buzz around Croom this May, with something happening nearly every week – and we hope you’ll be part of it! Whether you’re looking to learn something new, get outside with the family, or simply soak up the atmosphere, there’s an event for you.

Set dancing kicks things off in style every Friday evening at 7pm in the Civic Centre. These classes are perfect if you're new to set dancing or just want to brush up on your moves before the Fleadh Cheoil Luimnigh at the end of the month. The full course runs across the four Fridays in May for just €10, and bookings can be made directly at the Civic Centre. It’s a great way to move, laugh, and meet your neighbours.

Photography lovers and budding nature enthusiasts are in for a treat on May 14th. Shane will be leading a mobile phone photography class in the O’Tuama Room at the Civic Centre. This session will cover the basics of taking great shots on your phone, with a special focus on capturing wildlife and flora – perfect for those who want to contribute as citizen scientists or just up their Instagram game. The class includes a practical session in Croom Town Park, and tea and coffee on arrival. All this for just €5.

Then, get ready to pedal into some fun on Friday afternoon, May 16th, as Croom Town Park becomes the home of Bike Week celebrations. Kids are invited to dress up as their favourite superheroes or princesses and join the parade on bikes or scooters. It all starts at 3:30pm, and there will be prizes for the best dressed and the most safety-savvy riders!

That same evening, we’re back in the park for a magical Bats and Moths Dusk Walk at 9:30pm with Albert Nolan. This is a wonderful chance to experience Croom’s wildlife at night. It’s a free event, but space is limited, so please register at the Civic Centre – and don’t forget to dress warmly.

On Sunday, May 18th, the Aubergine Restaurant and Store will bring the flavours of the Mediterranean to Croom with a special evening of tagines and other North African dishes. It’s the perfect way to treat yourself to something delicious and different. Call 061 600038 to book your spot.

As we approach the end of the month, the much-loved Fleadh Cheoil Luimnigh begins on May 31st, with competitions and celebrations running through to June 1st. Most events will be hosted at Coláiste Chiaráin, and it promises to be a lively, music-filled weekend.

That same day, May 31st, the Maigue Rivers Trust will be running activities in Croom Town Park. Expect everything from hands-on science exploring the River Maigue to beginner fly fishing lessons. It’s a great day out for the whole family.

And to wrap it all up, don’t miss the June Craft Market on Sunday, June 1st in Croom Town Park. Running alongside the Fleadh, this market will feature local crafts, handmade goods, and plenty of community spirit.
